Update from Pastor Dave

Scandinavia Lutheran Church

It is with dismay that I have to prepare a letter that restricts when and how we worship as a community of believers.  But in view of the world health situation, that we are faced with, it has become necessary to do just that. Our Lord Jesus Christ loves each child of His creation and expects each of us to love Him in return and He wants us to join together as His body to worship and praise Him.  With that said the health crisis of COVID-19 that presently exists, is a very real risk for those having health concerns already, especially the elderly with heart disease, and upper repertory disease’s or diabetes. Their health may be compromised in an adverse and life threatening way and as a God’s Church we want to curb that possibility.  It is up to each of us individually to decide what is best for our own health care situation. Our Lord tells us we are to protect and care for the Temple in which the Holy Spirit dwells, He’s talking about our bodies. So, do what is best for you.  You can spend time with Him by praying and reading scripture in your home or watch on Face Book.

  • We will continue to have church services on Saturday, Sunday, midweek services and confirmation.
  • We will be live streaming the Sunday service on the church’s face book page.
  • Sunday school will be suspended until further notice.  There will be a children’s message during the church service.  The youth will not be asked to gather together at the altar, but remain with their families.
  • When greeting one another please refrain from touching one another.  That is difficult because it is so natural. Give people their space.
  • The collection plates will not be passed.  They will be placed at the rear of the church, place your offering in the plate as you enter the sanctuary.
  • Coffee hour will be suspended for the time being.
  • We strongly urge everyone to leave the church immediately following the service.
  • Joyce and I will not great you as you leave as we have in the past.  This perhaps is the hardest for us.
  • Our Food Pantry will remain open for anyone needing assistance.  There may be an increase in need as there are many who are being laid off their jobs right now.
  • Other committee meetings and Bible studies will continue as regularly scheduled, unless changed by the chairperson.

Please be considerate and wise, if you do not feel good on Sunday morning or for any other meeting please stay at home.

We will continue to monitor the national situation and initiate changes as they are needed to protect the health and well being of our church family.

We are a family of God, and we are to look out for our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Pick up your phone and call your neighbor or a church member and see how they are. Ask if there is anything you can do for them.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.  Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving; let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:4-6)
